Joaquim A. (Jack) Mattos. 85, of Westport, husband of Rosa (Barao) Mattos, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Brookdale Sakonnet Bay with his family by his side. Born in Elvas, Portugal, he was the son of the late Francisco Matos and the late Maria do Carmo (Sopa) Matos.
Besides his loving wife, Rosa (Barao) of 61 years, he leaves his three beloved children: Frank J. Mattos and his wife Cheryl of Saunderstown, RI; Connie M. Short and her husband Timothy of Westport and Yvone M. Rego and her husband Christopher of Westport. He was blessed with six granddaughters and leaves behind Caitlin Nogueira and her husband Jacob, Alexia Mattos, Brooke Mattos, Olivia Mattos, Jacqueline Mattos and Sophia Rego as well as two great granddaughters, Isabella and Madison Nogueira; along with several nieces and nephews.
After immigrating to the US in 1969, Joaquim was the owner/operator of Casa Cristal, Fall River and New Bedford, as well as the former owner of Spindle City Factory Outlets, Fall River. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and “Avo” who worked very hard to provide for his family. During his retirement, Jack could be found cultivating his estate and appreciating the life that he built for himself and his family. He was an avid cigar smoker and Portuguese Soccer fan.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
In respect for his wishes, private burial to follow at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
