Geraldine S. (Robbins) Howie 86, of Halifax, MA passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was the loving wife of the late Robert Howie. She was the devoted mother of their 4 children. She was predeceased by her son, the late Stephen Howie. She is survived by Stephen’s wife Patrice of Halifax, Robert and Julie of Pembroke, Kevin and Michelle of Plymouth and Kimberly and John Bessette of Halifax. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Nicholas, Craig, Erin, Lauren, Austin, Kelly, Sierra, Tyler and Samantha.
Geraldine was born in Middleboro MA on March 13, 1938, to the late Albert Robbins and May (Shaw) Robbins. She attended school in Middleboro, and was a Worthy Advisor of the Middleboro Assembly, Order of Rainbow for Girls. The Order of Rainbow for Girls was a youth service organization that teaches leadership training through community service where young women learned about the value of charity and service through their work in local projects.
She was a resident of Halifax for over 50 years. She was a bus driver for the local school system from 1970 until 2001. If you met her, you’d have never guessed that “Gerry” was a master of the manual shift transmission. She was a devoted and caring mother and “Grammy” and many a memory was made at all the family gatherings at her and “Big Boy’s” house in Halifax. She had an infectious laugh and had a habit of closing her eyes when pictures were taken. She loved gardening, reading, walking and cooking. Although, we would question the love of cooking during a few select holidays (if you know, you know). She was a kind, caring person loved by all and will be missed greatly.
Family and friends are invited to attend Geraldine's visiting hours Saturday, August 31st from 9:00-11:00 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A burial will follow at Central Cemetery, Halifax.
