McKunes, Mary E. Martin, 65, of South Boston, passed away August 23, 2024, after a hard- fought battle with cancer.
Mary was born to the late Carl and Eleanor Martin on August 26, 1958.
Beloved sister to the late Carl K. Martin and his wife Marlene of Norwood, the late Ruth Martin of South Boston, and the late John H. J. Martin and his wife Mary Ellen Martin of South Boston.
Devoted wife of the late Stephen “Stevie” McKunes Sr. of South Boston, Mary is at last reunited with the love of her life.
Proud mother of Peggy Jones and husband Brian of Tennessee, Donna McKunes Clarke and husband Rob Sr. of Texas, Billy Martin of Virginia, Robert Martin and wife Beverly of South Boston, Stephen McKunes Jr. and wife Andrea of Dorchester, Mark M. McKunes and wife Colleen of Attleboro and Patrick McKunes and wife Jessica of Whitman.
Mary was adored by her grandchildren and cherished her role as Nana to Steven Mickevich, Kiley Roberts and husband Andrew, Christina Martin, Bobby Martin Jr., Mark Martin, Nathan Martin, Robert Clarke Jr., Jacklyn Clarke, Ava McKunes, Mira McKunes, Kaitlyn Martin, Kaia McKunes, Brielle McKunes, Ariana McKunes, Austin McKunes, Layla McKunes, Iyla McKunes, Casper McKunes, and Logan McKunes. Great Nana of Andrea Roberts, Andrew Roberts, James Roberts and Luka Martin.
A long-time employee of the Condon Elementary School, Mary was a loving caretaker in the DDC Program where she formed many meaningful relationships and life-long friendships.
Mary was a loving aunt, cousin, neighbor and a friend to many. She devoted her life to her family and showed unbelievable strength after the loss of her husband and through her long battle with cancer. She was an incredible force, loved by all who knew her.
Visting hours will be held at Casper Funeral Home located at 187 Dorchester Street, South Boston on Friday August 30th from 4-8PM. Funeral Service will be held at St. Brigid’s in South Boston on Saturday August 31st at 10AM.
