Mario Cioffi passed away peacefully at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital of Melrose on Thursday, August 22nd. He was 95 years old. Born and raised in Atripalda, Avellino, Italy, he was the son of the late Orazzio and Columba Pina Cioffi.
Mario came to the United States with his family in 1971 and settled in Somerville. He worked as a skilled wine barrel maker in Italy and worked at the famed Schrafft’s Candy factory in Charlestown, until he retired. Mario was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. A hard working man, he provided a good life for his family. He enjoyed time with his family and friends, and he often picked mushrooms in local wooded areas. Each year he planted a prolific garden which produced delicious vegetables for his family. He also enjoyed going to Encore to try his luck. He was a good and decent man who will be missed by those who knew him.
The beloved husband of Elena (Galluccio) Cioffi, who passed away in 2020, he was a devoted father to Maria Rosaria and her late husband Antonio of Italy, Giovanna Guarino and her husband Raffaele of North Reading, Carmela Pisano and her husband Franco of North Reading and Valeria DeSorbo of Somerville. He was a loving grandfather to Francesca, Massimo, Caterina, Erica, Gianfranco, AnnaMaria and the late Andrea. He was a loving great-grandfather to Alessia, Aurora, Vincenzo, Dante, Lia, Alexa and Matthew. Mario was a dear brother to Biagio Cioffi and the late Antonio, Sabino, and Carmela.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St, Medford on Friday August 30th from 9 -11 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in Saint Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford at 11:30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett
