Julie Ann Gillis, age 58 of Roslindale passed away on Thursday, August 22nd at home with her family by her side after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Beloved daughter of Albert E. and Donna M. (Nichols) Gillis of Roslindale. Dear sister of Laurel Ann Gomperts and her husband Thomas, and Sean M. Gillis all of Naples, FL. Loving aunt of Derek M. Gillis and his wife Reeves of Dedham. Devoted great aunt of Lilly and Peter Gillis. Niece of Nancy J. Nichols and her husband Michael J. O’Connor of Melrose, and William J. Gillis and his wife Mary of Walpole. Also survived by her 106-year-old great Aunt Alice Gillis of West Roxbury and many cousins.
Julie was a 1986 graduate of McKinley Technical High School in Boston. She worked as a Child Care Assistant in Roslindale and at Essence of Thyme, in Hyde Park. She was a volunteer for many years at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Julie will be remembered by her beautiful smile that always lit up a room and brightened the lives of all who knew her. She loved dining out, walks in the Arnold Arboretum in Boston, attending the Barnstable County Fair, and frequent trips to the Cape and Naples, Fl.
Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St., West Roxbury on Wednesday, August 28th at 10:30am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John Chrysostom Church, 4750 Washington St., West Roxbury at 11:30am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
