Obituary

Patricia A. (Hovey) Freitas, 85 of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the wife of John Daniel Freitas, with whom she just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

She was born on August 28, 1938 in Lowell and was a daughter of the late George Hovey and the late Bertha (Lemire) Hovey. She was raised in Lowell, where she attended St. Peters Grammar School and graduated from Lowell High School.

“Nana Pat” was the cornerstone of the Freitas family. Her favorite thing was loving her grandchildren and her children. She was like a mother to everyone she knew. She never said no and was always there to help anyone who needed it. Words cannot describe how much she will be missed.

Patricia enjoyed bowling and she loved playing cards. She was a communicant of St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in the Highlands neighborhood of Lowell.

In addition to her beloved husband, John Freitas, she is survived by her three children, Robin Calderwood and her husband, Paul of Fort Myers, FL, Susan Freitas of Tewksbury, and John (Jay) Michael Freitas of Lowell; her four grandchildren, Chantal Tap’e of Philadelphia, Julie Freitas of W. Newbury, Sarah Freitas of Lowell, and Jake Freitas of Lowell.

She was predeceased by her siblings, the late Robert Hovey and the late John Hovey.

On Wednesday, August 28, 2024 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 9-11 a.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. Her funeral mass will be offered at 12 noon at St.Margaret of Scotland Parish, 374 Stevens Street, Lowell; followed by procession to St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell.
