William T. Thompson, III, of Lunenburg formerly of Malden, passed away peacefully, August 22, 2024 following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He was 79. Bill was the beloved husband to his high school sweetheart, Anna (Covino) Thompson for 56 years. Born in Everett he was the son of the late Pasquale A. and Ruth E. (Reves) Sorrentino.
Bill was raised and educated in Medford and was a Medford High School graduate with the Class of 1963. He was a retired letter carrier with the United States Postal Service where he worked for more than twenty-five years prior to his retirement. Throughout his life Bill was an avid Boston sports fan and especially loved following the Boston Bruins. He was also a car enthusiast and owned many beautiful domestic and foreign cars over the years. He was a talented handyman, a true "Mr. Fix It", and was always willing to help family and friends with his time, skills, and many talents.
In addition to his beloved wife, Bill is survived by his sisters Patricia Giarle of Medford and Lorraine Hall of Jacksonville, FL as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Bill also leaves behind his brother-in-law Ralph Covino and his wife Elizabeth, of Andover, and a very good friend Bob Mansour and his wife Mary, of North Andover. He is predeceased by his brother, the late Wayne Sorrentino.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend an hour of visitation at the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Thursday, August 29th, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 79 Warner St. Medford, at 11 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Bill's memory to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168
