Obituary

GERMANO, Kathleen "Kay" (Johnson) of West Roxbury passed on August 22, 2024. She was the beloved wife for 55 years to the late John R. Germano. Loving mother of Eileen Callum and her husband Jay, and their children Joshua Callum and his wife Chelsea DeTorres and daughter Nicole Callum; Beth Germano and her husband Lucas Feininger, and their daughters Regina and Anne; John Germano, Jr. and his wife Kristina and their children Lily and Ben Germano and his fiancé Jacklyn Satkus, and the memory of their late son Jake Germano. She was the sister of the late Claire Ahern, Polly Kelly, the late Gerald Johnson, and Peter Johnson.

Kay Germano passed peacefully after an unfortunate fall. She was surrounded by family who gave her love and support in her final hours. At 92 years old Kay lived a full life and was as strong to the end as she was in her life. For Kay family and faith meant everything, and she lovingly embraced her children and grandchildren.

As the family grew, she was involved in many activities in support of her children. She was especially active in Girl Scouts serving as a troop leader. She also served on many committees benefitting the schools her children attended. Kay was also a longtime secretary in the Boston Public Schools as well as at Saint Theresa of Avila School. She was a lifelong parishioner of Saint Theresa parish where she was an active member of the choir for years, enjoyed her love of singing and shared that joy with her family. She was also past President of the parish women's organization the Theresians.

Kay spent many years as a homeowner in Scituate where she enjoyed leisurely summers from her childhood to adulthood. It was in Scituate where she was also past President of the Sandhillettes and a longtime member of the Scituate Beach Association.

ln passing Kay will now be reunited with her loving husband John, who predeceased her in 2011 and for whom she has missed every day after their many years together enjoying friends at St. Theresa of Avila, Boy Scouts and the Knights of Columbus.

Visiting hours are at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury on Sunday, August 25 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Prayers from the funeral home are on Monday, August 26 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Theresa of Avila Church at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Kay's memory to the Massachusetts Nurses' Foundation Scholarship Fund at massnurses.org.
