Worcester - Mary Ann Rooney, 78, of Worcester and formerly of Southbridge, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 in the Hermitage Healthcare Center surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Ann was born in Worcester, daughter of Elizabeth Rooney. She is survived by her brother, Richard Rooney and his wife Patricia Rooney of Berlin, MA; beloved cousins, especially Norman Fontaine and wife Nancy of Texas, four nieces, Christine Rooney and Kathleen Rooney (deceased) of Warren, PA; Elizabeth Rooney and her partner Beth Monahan of Worcester; and grandniece Hailey Rooney and nephew, Justin Rooney of Worcester. She also leaves behind many close friends, especially Sharon Mandeville (deceased) and James Porra of Southbridge.
She was a graduate of the Worcester Police Citizen Academy and was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard. Later, she worked for the Wyman Gordon Company in Grafton as a jitney driver and stamper until her retirement.
Mary Ann was a faithful member of Saint Joan of Arc Church in Worcester. An avid Red Sox fan, Mary Ann brought joy and laughter to al she knew.
The calling hours will be held on Monday August 26th from 9:30 - 10:30 am at Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in Saint Joan of Arc Church 570 Lincoln St. Worcester. A private family burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester.
