James Otis Towles, 87, of Valdosta passed away Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Fellowship Home in Valdosta. His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Omega Baptist Church with the Rev. Devin Schultz and the Rev. Steve Moon officiating. Mr. Towles was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The deacons of Omega Baptist Church, Gibbs Patrick Sr., Ernest Harris, Steve Whittington, Willie Scarbor, Larry Lamb, Horace White, C. L. Keith and Tommy Hornbuckle, served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the members of Mr. Towles Sunday School Class at Omega Baptist Church.
Born August 1, 1914, in Lowndes County, Mr. Towles was the son of the late Henry Towles and Josephine McGhee Towles. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nadawah Bishop Towles; and six brothers. He retired from Brown Ford in Tifton; and he was a member of Omega Baptist Church.
Mr. Towles is survived by one son, Bobby L. Godwin of Valdosta; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
