Edward W. Cormier, 75

Edward W. Cormier, age 75, of Mansfield, a retired Mansfield Police Officer, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 19, 2024 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Brenda L. (Hayden) Cormier, to whom he was wed for fifty-four years.
Born in Brockton, MA on February 13, 1949, he was a loving son of the late Walter P. and Virginia M. (Walsh) Cormier.
Ed grew up in Brockton and was a 1967 graduate of Brockton High School. During the time of the Vietnam War, he proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer. He was honorably discharged from the service on March 27, 1972 with the rank of Sergeant and returned to school, earning an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Massasoit Community College in Brockton.
Officer Cormier began his career as a police officer in Brockton. For twenty-nine years, he served and protected the Community of Mansfield as a Patrolman, retiring in 2002. Following retirement, Ed worked as a bartender at several area establishments where he well-liked and respected, and always enjoyed a good conversation at the bar.
A resident of Mansfield since 1975, Ed was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Officers, a former member of the Mansfield American Legion and attended many events at the Norton VFW Post 8049. His love and devotion for family and friends always came first and he also enjoyed vegetable gardening and times spent taking in the beauty of the Cape Cod Canal.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted sons, Marc A. Cormier and his longtime companion Jeanne Dubois of Taunton and Brad W. Cormier and his wife Melissa of Northbridge. He was the father-in-law of Keri Auciello of Attleboro. He was the cherished grandfather of Hayden Cormier, Jeffrey Cormier, Victoria Cormier, Isabelle Cormier, Lauren Nesbitt, Brianna Dubois and the late Brittany. He was the dear brother of Deborah Rich and her husband Warren of East Bridgewater and the late Donald Cormier, Thomas Cormier and Jeffrey Cormier. He is also survived by his treasured 11 great grandchildren, as well as many much-loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, August 28th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield. Burial will be private.
