John Michael Zamaitis, of Carver, Massachusetts, passed away on August 14th at his home from natural causes. Born in Brockton on December 24, 1958, he was the second child of John B. Zamaitis and Mary (Bunar) Zamaitis.
John attended Rockland High School from 1972 to 1976. Following his graduation, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1976 to 1981. In 1987, John earned an Associate Degree in Science from Massasoit Community College.
He was a dedicated employee of the United States Postal Service in Abington, where he received recognition for 35 years of service, retiring in 2020. Following his retirement, John faced several medical crises but remained optimistic about his future dreams.
John was an avid reader, with a particular fondness for the legal thrillers of John Grisham and the dark horror fiction of Stephen King. He displayed a rough side to his personality, complemented by a dry sense of humor. Friends, fellow coworkers, and people on his postal route loved his funny antics and boisterous, outgoing demeanor. John was also knowledgeable about world affairs and held strong opinions on government issues.
John was an active member of the Rum Pot Rustlers motorcycle club, where he enjoyed riding his Harley with the group to various events. He had a passion and talent for working on vehicles and was often found tinkering in his yard, restoring equipment. John was also a member of the National Rifle Association and regularly met with friends at the Carver Sportsmen’s Club to share stories and camaraderie.
John is survived by two sisters, and one brother.
A burial service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Cape Cod, for military veterans on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 12:45 PM. We advise anyone that will be attending the service to show up at least 15 minutes prior. Following the service, guests are invited to join for a luncheon celebration at Mezza Luna Restaurant in Buzzards Bay to honor John’s life.
In lieu of flowers, due to cemetery regulations, donations to Save the Children would be greatly appreciated, as this was a cause close to John’s heart.
