She emigrated to the United States with her husband and three of her children from Brava in 1967. Maria attended school in Brava and became a master seamstress who perfected her skills from a young age while in Brava. After coming to the U.S., she worked for several clothing manufacturers with most of her years spent at Vanessa Sportswear and Cape Cod-Cricket Lane, Inc. from where she retired.
She and her husband lived and raised their family in Whitman, where they lived for 27 years. She later moved to Hanson and then Halifax with her daughter and her family, where she doted on her grandchildren and was a source of joy to all who was fortunate enough to be in her company.
Maria loved to hear and share funny stories. She loved hearing a good joke and always seized the opportunity to share them with family and friends. Maria was a creative person that not only made the most beautiful outfits for herself and her daughter but could look at anything and immediately create it from scratch. She was a wonderful cook that enjoyed making meals for her family and prided herself on making sure that everyone was satisfied after one of her meals. Her grandchildren will miss the attention she gave to making their favorite dishes on a regular basis. Maria was a giving person, who supported several charities throughout her life.
