Gary Dewayne Solomon, 63, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Coffee Regional in Douglas, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Ocilla Church of God in Ocilla, Georgia, with the Rev. Dewain Joiner and the Rev. Josh Bowles officiating. Interment will follow in the Arbor Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services in the sanctuary of the church.
Mr. Solomon was born April 20, 1961, in Douglas, Georgia, to Aldeen Solomon and the late Mildred Merritt Solomon. He lived in the community all of his life and graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1979. Mr. Solomon retired from Diamond Cargo as an inventory controller. He loved his grandchildren, fishing and keeping his yards. He was a member of Fitzgerald Church of God.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Merla Solomon of Fitzgerald; a son, Gregory Sidwell & Jody of Fitzgerald; his father, Aldeen Solomon & Mildred of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Alex Sidwell, Arden Sidwell and Ava Clement; a sister, Sandra McDonald of Fitzgerald and a brother, Tony Solomon & Sandy of Douglas. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two sons: Chad Sidwell and Gary Dewayne Solomon, Jr. and two brothers: Lamar Solomon and Steve Solomon.
