John M. Hannigan, age 71, of Medford, died earlier this week after a multi-year struggle with logopenic primary progressive aphasia. A lifelong Medford resident, John worked for the United States Postal Service and enjoyed many years of retirement. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
John was the beloved son of the late John J. Hannigan of Malden, and the late Mildred P. (Daly) Hannigan of East Boston. He was also blessed and loved by his stepmother, the late Elizabeth Carole Owens Hannigan of Medford. John was blessed by having aunts – Grace Hannigan and Eileen Hannigan – who devoted considerable time and effort in raising him. He is survived by his brothers: Steve, Tom and Joe; his many cousins, including Eileen and David Hannigan, Elin Howe, Tom Swanson, and those from the Maurice Daly family. David Hannigan and Tom Swanson will serve as pallbearers at his service.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 - 8 PM on Tuesday, August 20th in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. John’s funeral will begin at 8:30 AM on Wednesday, August 21st in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford, at 9:30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
