STEWARTSTOWN – Ethel M. Phinney, 87, of Stewartstown, passed away on Wednesday evening, July 24, 2024, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook with her family at her side.
She was born in Belfast, Me., on Dec. 27, 1936, a daughter to the late Russell and Myrtle (Dyer) Hubbard.
For many years, Ethel and her husband resided in the Limington-Limerick area of Maine. She was an active member of the Cornish United Church of Christ and did much volunteer work for the church bargain shop for 25 years. She worked many years in retail gift shops, first for the Romard Hallmark Gift Shop before opening her own shop, “Relections Card & Gift” in Naples, Me.
She was an active member of the National Campers & Hikers Association for more than 40 years, and Ethel and her husband were New England regional directors of the organization.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 69 years, Ronald D. Phinney of West Stewartstown; two sons, Bruce (Suzanne) Phinney of Canaan, Vt., and Steven (Sherry) Phinney of Melbourne, Fla.; a sister, Rita Martel of Limington, Me.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Ethel is predeceased by a son, David, and a sister, Charlene Staples.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday August 21st at 11 AM at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., Cornish. Burial will follow at Highland Annex Cemetery in Limerick. Afterwards, a reception will be held at the Cornish United Church of Christ.
