Mary Anne (Hayes) DiMestico, 81 of Brockton, passed peacefully at home after a long period of failing health on August 12, surrounded by family and loved ones. Born in Brockton, August 15, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Richard P. and Anna Reagan Hayes of Whitman.
After graduation in 1960 from Whitman High School, Mary Anne worked at New England Telephone, and in the circulation department at the Brockton Enterprise for 27 years, from where she retired.
Mary Anne enjoyed spending her time in the garden and at the beach, going out to eat, baking, and shopping with her sister and sister-in-law every Saturday. She was a passionate follower of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Known as Auntie Mimi to her nieces and nephews, she enjoyed spending time with her large extended family. She was most proud of being Grammy to her seven grandchildren, and great-granddaughter.
Mary Anne was the beloved wife of 62 years to James P. DiMestico, her high school sweetheart. She grew up in Whitman as one of nine children. She leaves behind her siblings Jeanne (Herbert) Fenton of Whitman, Michael (Michele) Hayes of Whitman, John (Carol) Hayes of Augusta, GA, Robert Emmet Hayes (Shannon O’Brien) of Whitman, and Mark (Denise) Hayes of Gibsonville, NC. She was preceded in death by Lawrence, Frances, and Terrence Hayes.
She was the loving mother of Michael DiMestico of Norton, Kevin (Carolyn) DiMestico of Norton, Anne DiMestico of Brockton, and James R. (Christine) DiMestico of Brockton. She was the devoted grandmother of Casey and Jamie Nightingale, and Jenna, Nicholas, Marisa, Alexa, Aaron, and Caseley DiMestico, and great-grandmother to Laurel.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services on Monday, August 19, at 10:30 am at Holy Ghost Parish, School Street, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, August 18, from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street, Whitman.
