Mellissa Ann Souza, 40 of Derry, NH passed away after a brief illness on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Mass General Hospital in Boston. She was the wife of Adalberto Rivas with whom she spent the last 18 years.
She was born in Lowell on September 13, 1983 and was a daughter of the late Cynthia L. (Tarr) Souza and William J. Souza of Derry, NH. She was raised and educated in Methuen, graduating from Methuen High School.
Mellissa worked as a shift supervisor at Shaws Grocery Store in Londonderry for many years before her illness. She was a devoted mother, cherishing time spent with her family especially her son. She found solace in spending time in the sunshine at the beach, and enjoyed watching her shows.
In addition to her husband, Adalberto and her father, William, she is survived by her son, Jovani R. Rivas of Derry, NH; her mother in law, Magda Enith Gonzalez of Lawrence; and her step grandmother, Jane MacDonald and her husband, Stanley of Maine.
She is also survived by her brother in law, Walter Velez of Portsmouth, her sister in law, Chayanna Velez of Lawrence; her nieces and nephews, Amelia Souza, Carter Soua, Billy Souza III; and her husbands nieces nephews; her aunts and uncles, Jean Bell of Vermont, and Christina Ayers and her husband, Dale of Maine, and Scott Tarr of Claremont, NH, Joe Souza and his wife, Kim of Dracut; her close friends, Cheri and Jackie; and many cousins.
In addition to her mother, she was the sister of the late William J. "Fred" Souza Jr..
On Friday, August 23, 2024 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 4-7 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. Her funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 6 p.m..
