Eileen H. Stopa, age 71, passed away on Aug. 10, 2024, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. She was born on Jan. 10, 1953, in Springfield, MA and lived there for 34 years before moving to West Springfield in 1987. She was a daughter of the late Henry R. Stopa and Helen (Borowski) Stopa. Eileen’s name means Ray of Light in Irish translation. She was a graduate of Commerce High School, Class of 1971. She worked for 3 M Purification, Inc. in Enfield, CT as an assembler for 20 years. She also worked for Buxton Inc., in Agawam for 13 years as a stitcher and for VTC Aero Space Systems in Windsor Locks, CT for 6 years. She was a member of St Michael’s Cathedral since 1959 and has been a past town meeting member of Precinct 1 in West Springfield. She belonged to the Bay Colony Pomeranian Club and the Western Mass Shetland Sheep Dog Club. She started therapy dog visitations to children’s hospitals and nursing homes. She was a member of Al-Anon Family Groups for many years. She loved to travel and has been to Rome, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Canada and her favorite place, Ireland. She enjoyed going to the ocean and trips to Rhode Island. She is predeceased by her brother, Dennis H. Stopa, her soul mate Michael Thomas who passed away in 2000 and her beloved dogs, Maja, Stasha, Star, Ms. Bear, Ralph, Mac, Patty Bear, Brogan, Liza and Rosie. She is survived by cousins Jean Jonker (Holyoke), Debra Tarczynski (South Hadley), Alan Borowski (West Virginia), John Borowski (Holyoke). Calling hours will be held on the morning of the funeral, Thursday, August 15th, from 9:00 -10:00 AM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee, MA followed by an in-house Service at 10:00 AM.
