Doris Ann Gill Rutherford, 77, of Tifton peacefully went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Tift Avenue Church of God with the Rev. Kevin Dawson and the Rev. Joseph L. Crumley officiating. Mrs. Rutherford will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Rutherford will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Rutherford’s grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Born July 26, 1947, in Tift County, Mrs. Rutherford was the daughter of the late Thurmon Gill and Carlene Goff Gill. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Mike Gill and Alan Gill. Before retiring, she was a school crossing guard for 14 years with the Tift County Sheriff’s Department at what was Annie Belle Clark School on 12th Street. She was a former secretary at Tift Avenue Church of God for 16 years, where she attended for 67 years. She also kept books for her and her husband’s rental property business.
Mrs. Rutherford is survived by her husband, James Carroll Rutherford of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kyle and JoAnn Rutherford of Jacksonville Beach, Florida and Keith and Angie Rutherford of Jesup; one brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Faye Gill of Ocala, Florida; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Melissa and Chip Rhodes and Sandra Copeland, all of Tifton; a sister-in-law, Ann Gill of Ocala, Florida; her grandchildren and their spouses, Kylee and Cameron Boyd, Cody and Sarah Rutherford, Hagen and Amber Harter, Trent Rutherford and Brysen Rutherford; her great-grandchildren, Beckett Oliver Boyd, William “Liam” James Harter and Amelia “Millie” Grace Harter; her four bonus grandchildren, Kelsey (Dillon) Brown, Kalen Horne, Macy Eason and Skye Eason; her two bonus great-grandchildren, Jace and Laura Brown; and several nieces and nephews.
