Obituary

Maria I. Talbot, 77

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Maria I. (Brodeur) Talbot, age 77, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Friday,
August 9, 2024, at Regal Care in Taunton. She was the beloved wife of the late James
T. Talbot, to whom she was wed for fifty-three years at the time of his recent passing on
January 19, 2024.

The eldest daughter of the late Joseph F. Brodeur and the late Agnes (Camara)
Brodeur, she was born on April 17, 1947, in Lowell, educated in Lowell schools, and
graduated from Lowell High School in 1964. Growing up, she was a Girl Scout and was
active in St. Anthony’s Church. She was very close with her family and helped care for
her younger siblings.

After graduation, she went on to nursing school to become an LPN. She spent a year in
the convent before deciding that her life’s path was meant to be devoted to the care of
others. It was shortly after leaving the convent that she met James. Her nursing career
took her to new experiences and challenges, including Sharon Manor Nursing Home,
the former Cardinal Cushing Hospital in Brockton, and Wrentham State School, where
she later retired. She also worked per diem in various hospitals and health centers.

In her free time, she enjoyed doing needlepoint and counted cross-stitch and was an
avid bird watcher. She kept a bird book in which she would log the date that she saw a
particular bird, a hobby that she passed on to both of her children. She loved the beach
and spent at least one week on the Cape every summer and Martha’s Vineyard in the
fall. She enjoyed traveling, taking trips to the US Virgin Islands, many trips to Bermuda,
including her honeymoon with James, and trips to Disney World with her children and
later her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching movies with her family, her favorite being
“The Wizard of Oz”, which she would watch every year when it was aired on TV on
Thanksgiving Eve. She would always exclaim “There’s no place like home” upon the
return home from a trip. She loved to cook and bake for her family, her specialties being
her homemade tomato sauce, her stuffing at Thanksgiving, her New York-style
cheesecake, and her chocolate chip cookies, which she always made multiple batches
of for her grandchildren. She was very fond of her shih-tzus, having owned a few over
the years that were her constant companions. She was close with her children and
grandchildren, who were the light of her life and brought her so much joy.

She is survived by her daughter Jenifer A. Lovely and husband Bryan of Taunton, and
her son James J. Talbot of Mansfield. She was the cherished grandmother of Alora
Lovely of Taunton, Connor Lovely of Taunton, and Kasey Talbot of Seekonk. She was
the loving sister of Joseph D. Brodeur of Lewiston, ME, the late Dennis C. Brodeur of
Lowell, Gail-Ann Brodeur and her husband Howard Martin of Dracut, Kevin M. Brodeur
and his wife Paula of Merrimack, NH, and Christine F. Coté and her husband Joseph
William of Waterford, CT, and the aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, August 21st from 4:00-7:00 P.M.
at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield. Burial will be held privately at The Massachusetts
