Lillian Elizabeth Goode Smith
Entered eternal rest on August 5th, 2024 in Prosser, WA. Lillian was
born on October 27th, 1943 to Otis and Theresa Goode in Yakima,
WA. She spent her childhood on the family farm in Wiley City playing
with her siblings in the creek and exploring their old barn. She was a
tomboy and was always looking for adventures. When she was a teen
the family moved to a new home in Yakima and she attended Central
Catholic High School.
At Yakima Valley Community College she met Stephen Smith and
they were soon married at only 20 years old. She joined him on his
family’s wheat farm on the Horse Heaven Hills outside of Prosser.
They were married for 60 years. Together they raised four children;
Stephen Smith, Katherine (Christopher) Parkinson, Jennifer (Aaron)
Knight, and Anthony (Karen) Smith. She was blessed with six very
loved grandchildren; Madeline, Lucas, Andrew, Philip, Elizabeth, and
Arthur. She is survived by her brother Raymond (Pearl) Goode of
Portland, OR and Marlene (Patrick) O’Halloran of Moxee, WA. Many
beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lillian was preceded in death by her oldest child Stephen Smith, her
brother Richard Goode, and brother-in-laws Mathew Ferriole, James
Smith, and Robert Smith.
Lillian was a very good mom and farmwife. She cooked all our meals
from scratch and kept an immaculate home. She also prepared all the
meals for the harvest crews and supported our dad, grandpa, brother
and the extended Smith family as they worked the farm. She loved
helping out with cherry harvest too. We had some good times in those
orchards and fields.
Once her children were grown she started working in visitor services
at Columbia Crest Winery. She made many friends there and it was
the perfect career for her as she got to showcase her many talents by
decorating/merchandising the gift shop, talking with visitors, catering,
and of course selling wine.
Her biggest love in life was children. All the kids loved her. She really
enjoyed getting to know all our high school friends and she became a
second mom to many of them. She truly loved all her grandkids and
nieces and nephews. She was especially blessed by the gift of
adoption in her life. The incredible gift of life she experienced through
her daughter, many nieces and nephews, and her grandchildren. She
will forever be thankful to their birth families for that gift.
Lillian was a very talented artist. She enjoyed several different
mediums including watercolors, oils, pastels, ink, and charcoal. She
also enjoyed arranging flowers, photography, decorating her home,
sewing quilts, and many other crafts. Her other talent was sports. She
was a naturally gifted athlete who enjoyed softball, tennis, volleyball
and any type of competition.
A special thank you to her forever friends in the Pinochle Club. A
friendship group that grew closer over sixty as they experienced the
highs and lows of life. They have always been a great support to our
mom and dad. Frank & Roberta, Diane & Dennis, Marilu & Darryl, Phil
& Karen, PeeWee & Hazel, and Gail & Jan.
A vigil will be held Monday, August 12 at 5:00 pm followed by the Rosary at 6:00 at Prosser Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, August 13 at 10:00 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prosser, Washington. Burial will follow at Prosser Cemetery. A luncheon will be held in honor of Lillian at Sacred Heart Catholic church.
Until we see you again beautiful mom.
