Gales Ferry - Evelyn Tarozzi, aged 81, passed away peacefully in her home on August 7th, 2024.
Lynn, as she was known to her family and friends, was born in Springfield, MA on September 5, 1942. Lynn graduated from Springfield Technical High School where she met, and went to the senior prom with, her husband, Richard, who survives her.
After receiving her undergraduate teaching degree from American International College, Lynn began her life-long career as a passionate educator. Lynn started teaching in Boston before then spending more than twenty-five years as a teacher in the Ledyard Public School System once her family settled in Gales Ferry. During that time, Lynn earned her Master’s Degree in Teaching from Connecticut College and was known for her patience with her students and for her amazing, fun bulletin boards. She eventually retired as a second-grade teacher at the Gallup Hill School.
Lynn was an outgoing and active member of her community who also loved to travel. She was dedicated to tending her gardens, was a member of the Ledyard Gardening Club, and became a certified Master Gardener through UCONN. Lynn enjoyed taking neighborhood walks with friends and her many different dogs over the years. She was involved in the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Gales Ferry and dedicated her time to supporting programs including their community garden. Always the teacher, Lynn believed in the power of reading and was able to instill a love of books in her children and so many of her students. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of all her husband’s hobbies starting when she was a cheerleader for him when he played high school football for the Tech Tigers through all his car restorations as she was known to help bleed the brakes in the garage when needed and was always his cheerful co-navigator on their road-trips and in life.
In addition to her husband Richard, Lynn is survived by her two children, Marc and Jennifer, and their spouses Lani and James; her three grandchildren Mick, Evan and Connor, who called her Mimi; and her sister Patricia Anderson along with her niece, Debbie, and nephew, Eric.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic, on Monday, August 12th from 2 to 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Ledyard Gardening Club or your local library.
