KEARNEYSVILLE, WV – Edna Kathleen “Kathy” Tycz, 87, formerly of Webster, MA, died Sunday, July 28, 2024. She remained at her “Belmont Farm” home in Kearneysville through a period of declining health.
She was born in Worcester, MA and raised in Webster, the daughter of Alexander J. and Janet E. (Kelly) Tycz. She attended St. John Villa Academy in New York, and graduated from Columbia University.
Edna leaves her friend and roommate of 20 years, Susan Stevenson, family members, and many friends at the Supreme Court, including Donald M. Baker of Lusby, MD.
She was an educator in California and also worked with an Indian tribe in the southwest. She was employed at the Library of Congress in Washington and by the Supreme Court of the United States. After serving 40 years in the Office of the Clerk of Court, she retired in 2020 as the Documents Control Center Director. At the Court, where she was known as “Kathy”, she was revered as dedicated, hard-working, and meticulous.
For 3 decades, Edna owned and boarded horses on her small farm, rising before dawn and her commute to Washington to care for them. She raced her first horse, Belmont Spy, at the Charles Town Race Track and other tracks.
Edna loved traveling, especially to the Middle East. She enjoyed riding, snowboarding and kayaking for many years. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and strength of character.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 AM Monday, August 12 at the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, MA followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM in Saint Anthony of Padua, Catholic Church, 24 Dudley Hill Rd., Dudley, MA.
