Obituary

Carmine J. Sacco, 77, a longtime Tewksbury resident, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 4 after a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Diane M. (Barnes) Sacco with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage.

He was born on December 6, 1946 in Caspoli, Italy, a son of the late Guido Sacco and the late Ada (Mancini) Sacco, he spent most of his childhood in Italy. He came to the United States as a teenager and his family settled in the North End of Boston and later Somerville. He was educated in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School in the 1960’s. He went on to graduate from Northeastern University with a degree in computer science.

Mr. Sacco had a long and storied career with Draper Laboratory in Cambridge. He worked as a financial administrator and was instrumental in many projects over the years. He worked on the Apollo Guidance Computer which was used on NASA’s Apollo missions which sent the first astronauts to the moon. Later, Draper worked closely with the United States Navy. He helped in the development of the Trident submarine launched ballistic missile which makes up the backbone of America’s nuclear triad to this day. He retired in 2013 after over 40 years of service.

Carmine was a longtime member of the Tewksbury Sons of Italy. He also enjoyed photography, studying computers and technology and was an avid reader. He had an easygoing personality and made everyone he knew comfortable. Everyone loved Carmine and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Besides his wife, Diane, he is survived by their 2 sons, Carmen Sacco and his wife, Denise, of Somerville and David Sacco and his wife, Lisa, of Tewksbury, his grandchildren, Cameron Sacco of Somerville and Joshua Sacco of Tewksbury. He is also survived by his siblings, Mario Sacco and his wife, Joanne, of Kingston, NH, Barbara Frasier and her husband Andrew, of Ossipee, NH, Sandra Sacco of Ossipee, NH and many nieces and nephews.

On Sunday, August 11, 2024 all are welcome to attend his visitation from 2-6 p.m. at Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey Street, Tewksbury 978-851-2061. On Monday, August 12 his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Procession will follow for burial at Tewksbury Cemetery.
