Kendall G. Nickelson, 79, of Westport, peacefully passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Charlton Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. He was the husband of Linda A. (Potwin) Nickelson, they were married in 1970 and just celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Nickelson was born in Fall River, son of the late Robert W. Nickelson, Sr. and the late Mildred G. (Gallop) Nickelson and had lived in Westport for over 50 years. A veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis, he served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a retired firefighter for the Town of Westport, a profession he began in 1973 and truly loved. He was an active volunteer and member of the Union United Methodist Church, Fall River. He also volunteered his time as a Boy Scout Leader and with his therapy dog, the late Casey at the Westport Council on Aging, the Macomber School and area nursing homes. Mr. Nickelson will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors along with his wife include his 2 sons: Keith E. Nickelson and his wife Sonia of Westport and Ryan S. Nickelson and his wife Rachel of Westport; 2 brothers: Robert W. Nickelson, Jr. of VA and Donald T. Nickelson of Rockland, MA; 4 grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Evan, Carli and Sophia; along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at the Union United Methodist Church, Fall River at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Tuesday at the Potter Funeral Home from 4-7 P.M.
Interment will be private.
