WILBRAHAM – Kathleen M. "Kay" (Moriarty) Leary, 86, of Wilbraham and a former longtime resident of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, August 4, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on June 24, 1938, a beloved daughter of the late Eugene and Anna (Leahy) Moriarty. She was raised in the North End section of Springfield, graduated from Sacred Heart Elementary School and Technical High School, both in Springfield. She was a Phlebotomist for over 20 years at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield and retired in 1998. Active in her Catholic faith, she had a lifelong devotion to Saint Anthony and was a communicant of Saint Patrick Church in Springfield. Kathleen was a skilled cook who always liked trying out new recipes. She enjoyed working out at the Senior Center and walking around her neighborhood and loved shopping for new fashions, especially pocketbooks and shoes. She enjoyed her many vacations which included Ireland, Saratoga, and Cape Cod. She was very fond the many canine companions in her family throughout the years. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and many friends. She leaves her beloved husband and soul mate, Thomas R. Leary. They were married on August 24, 1957 at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 66 years of happiness together. She also leaves her three loving and devoted children, Colleen L. Foley and her husband, William, of Springfield, Kelly A. Godbout and her husband, Claude, of Wilbraham, and Thomas P. Leary and his wife, Kimberly, of Hampden; her six cherished grandchildren, Thomas F. Hosey and his partner, Carrie, Griffin S. Foley and his partner, Julia, Brianne K. Summers and her husband, Shawn, Jillian K. Gaw and her husband, Matthew, Thomas J. Leary, and Jessica A. Leary; her four cherished great grandchildren, Brody, Major, and Blaire Summers, and Shane Gaw; her dear sister, Beverly King of Ludlow; her dear sister in law, Lois Connors and her husband, James, of Springfield; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her infant sister, Mary Moriarty; her cherished granddaughter who is her special angel, Shauna K. Godbout who was Called Home on August 25, 2019; her two dear brothers in law, Daniel King and John Clifford Leary and his wife, Carol; and her dear sister in law, Jane Petrone and her husband, James. Her Funeral will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 12, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to her Mass.
