Manuel H. Anjos, 71, of Lowell, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 3, 2024, after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Maria J. Anjos with whom he celebrated Forty Seven years of Marriage.
Manuel was born October 8, 1952, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal and was a son of the late Artur Espinola dos Anjos and the late Iria de Sousa Silvina. He was raised and educated in Graciosa, working as a farmer for his family until he immigrated to the United States of America in 1976.
Once in Lowell, he was a hard worker in many factories including Prince Packaging, Bradford, and Ballard until his retirement at the age of 65.
He enjoyed his gardening, loved spending time with his family, making wine, playing cards, and spending time at Hampton Beach. He was a passionate supporter the of S.L. Benfica Soccer Team. While in Portugal, he served in the Portuguese military and was a member of the Portuguese American Veterans in Lowell. He was a member of the Red’s Club, the Portuguese American Civic League and the Blue’s Club, the Portuguese American Center, as well the Holy Ghost Society and the Holy Trinity Society.
In addition to his loving wife, Maria, he is survived by his daughter, Anabela Machado and her husband, Luis, of Hampton, NH; his two sons, Manuel G Anjos and Luis F. Anjos , both of Lowell; his siblings, Maria Delures Melo and Domingos Antonio Anjos, all of Graciosa , Azores, Antonio Anjos and his wife, Fatima, of Lowell, Natalia Picanco and her husband, Jose Jao, and Manuela Correia and his husband, Carlos, all of Graciosa, and Jose Manuel Anjos of Lowell; his nieces and nephews, Ana Paula Machado and her son, Julio Medina; Duarte Machado and Sonia and their daughter, Emilia, and son, Helio, Mara Picanco and husband, Tiago Espinola and their sons, Nicholas and Benjamin, Flavio Picanco and his wife, Cristina and their children, Victoria and Manuel, Susana Arruda and her husband, Pedro, and their sons, Lucas and Tome, Bernardo Picanco of Graciosa, and Tiago Correia; and Fabio Lobao and his two children, Viviana and Miguel, as well as many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Manuel was predeceased by his brother, Eusebio Manuel de Sousa Anjos, and his brother in law, Felismino de Melo Machado, and his nephew, Helio Manuel dos Anjos Machado.
You are welcome to attend his calling hours on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 9-11 a.m. at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, 978-458-6816. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon at Saint Anthony's Church, 893 Central Street, followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
