Dorothy F. (Alden Meekin) Leadbetter, 88, of Whitman, MA passed peacefully at home on August 3, 2024. Dotty was born on May 13, 1936 to the late Margaret G. (Dwyer) Alden and Ralph J. Alden of Rockland, MA.
Dotty attended Rockland schools, moved to Whitman, and raised her beloved family. She is survived by her children Lorraine A. Millett (John) of Whitman, William R. Meekin (Sharon) of Bridgewater, Mary M. Burnett (Thomas) of Whitman, Patricia G. Meekin of Duxbury, and Kevin E. Leadbetter of Whitman, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter Barbara E. Josselyn (James) of Epping, NH.
After raising her children, Dotty worked at Brockton Hospital, New England Book Components (NEBC), and Johnny Foodmaster. She played catcher on Whitman’s women’s softball team, bowled in a candlepin league, took painting classes, participated in the Red Hat Society, and volunteered at the Whitman Senior Center. She adored her pets and loved hearing about other people’s animals. Dotty often traveled to Florida and made several overseas trips with family and friends.
Everyone who knew Dotty knew she was an avid and vocal New England sports fan, an absolute diehard for the Boston Celtics especially. She was thrilled when they won Banner 18 this year.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary), Whitman, MA on Tuesday, August 13th from 4:00-6:30 PM with a memorial service to follow.
