Mrs. Kathryn “Kay” R. (King) Burns, a longtime resident of Medford, formerly of Somerville passed away at her home on August 5th, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence J. Burns, Jr., and devoted mother of the late Brian G. Burns. She was 88 years old.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on May 25, 1936, she was the beloved daughter of the late John J. and Catherine M. (Sullivan) King. Sister of the late John King and Dorothy Pringle.
Kay grew up in Cambridge and was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge and Latin High school. She worked as a switchboard operator/ assistant for Metropolitan Pipe for over 35 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting blankets and clothes for her family, baking her famous chocolate chip cookies or brownies for any occasion, traveling, playing bingo and the slot machines, and teaching her grandkids and great-grandkids the rush of scratching lottery tickets. Kathryn loved being with her family and friends. Her greatest joy in life was her son Brian.
Kathryn is survived by her loving grandchildren; Valerie Burns of Medford and James and his wife Ashley Burns of Chelmsford and great-grandchildren; Jayden, Nathaniel, Vivian, and Evelyn.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024, from 6 to 8 pm at Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home in Medford. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. The funeral will take place 10 am at St. Joseph’s in Medford on Tuesday, August 13th. Interment will be held in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
