Sally J. Magnuson, 81, of Derry, NH, died Friday August 2, 2024 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry. She was born on December 2, 1942 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Henry and Dorothy (Lippke) Pohl. She had been a resident of Craven Terrace in Derry since the early 1970s when she and her husband Woody moved to NH from NY.
Strong willed until the end, she lived every day of her life on her own terms, refusing to give up her selfless routines which were heavily focused on taking care of her home and her family. She was driven by a strong sense of determination, and no matter what challenges she faced she was never willing to give up. Her motivation was an admirable trait which close friends and family members recognized as a unique quality specific to her. She possessed a dedication to take care of the tasks most of us would gladly pass onto others; her perseverance and strength of character was what she was both revered for and will be remembered by.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Julius "Woody" Magnuson of Derry; her daughter, April Barbere of Derry; two sons, James Magnuson of Baltimore, MD, and David Magnuson of Deerfield, NH; five grandchildren; and her two sisters, Diane Batterson and Carol Fillinger of Buffalo, NY.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 7th from 9 - 11am in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am in the funeral home. A committal service will follow at 1:00pm in the NH State Veterans Cemetery chapel, 110 DW Highway, Boscawen, NH, and all are welcome to gather for a celebration of her life to be held afterward. Immediate family will advise those in attendance as to the specific details once they've been finalized.
