STANDISH - Stephen (Steve) Paul Stack, age 77, passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2024.
He was born in Portland, ME on September 9, 1946, a son of the late Donald Stack Sr. and Doris (Cousins) Stack. He spent his childhood years in Cumberland and Buxton and graduated from Bonny Eagle High School in 1965. After high school Steve joined the Air Force and served from 1966-1969.
He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Nolan, on August 17, 1968.
Steve worked as a Machinist at Parker Nichols from 1985-2010. He enjoyed his time there but always said his favorite job he ever had was the 15 years before, that he spent as Herdsman at Martin’s Dairy Farm in Gorham. He developed his deep love and appreciation for agriculture and dairy farming during his time there.
Steve enjoyed traveling with his wife and together they have explored all over the country.
He could also often be found wherever his grandchildren were, supporting them in all their pursuits, whether it was soccer, baseball, or cow-showing, he was there to cheer them on. He enjoyed lots of sports with a special love for both hockey and stock car racing. He was a staunch supporter of Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, attending almost every weekend for many years and even raced his own car as a young adult. An avid Boston Bruins fan, he rarely missed watching a game on TV and had season tickets to the local Maine Mariners for some time in the 80s. He also enjoyed reading suspense/thriller novels and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Steve was a Cumberland County 4-H leader for 30+ years and a member of Holstein Association USA for 40+ years. He spent many years chaperoning the Maine State 4-H Dairy Team on their annual trip to the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, MA.
He is predeceased by his parents Donald and Doris.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia (Nolan) Stack; their children- Leanne Strout and her husband Jim, and Jeanne Jordan and her husband Jeremy; his siblings- Patty Stiles and her husband Bill, Greg Stack, and Donny Stack and his wife Sue; his grandchildren- Allison and her husband Tyler, Brittany, Jade, and Jared; and several nieces and nephews.
Steve’s family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Maine and Dr. Stephen Hayes who provided such excellent care to Steve.
