George H. Rost, Jr.

TEWKSBURY: George Herman Rost, Jr. age 89, a longtime resident of Tewksbury, formerly of Plainville and Somerville, passed away at his home, in the care of his grandson and hospice on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, following an extended illness.
He was the beloved husband of Lorraine C. (Serrra) Rost, who passed away on October 31, 2020. George loved his wife dearly and treasured the time he spent with her.
Born in Randolph, New Jersey on August 11, 1934, he was the son of the late George H. Rost and the late Elene (Matthews) Rost.
George was raised in New Jersey and attended local schools.
In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War Era aboard the U.S.S. Turner. He was awarded several decorations for his active-duty service including the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal (European Clasp) and the Good Conduct Medal.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a mechanic and was employed by the International Harvester Company and had served as a Constable and Deputy Sheriff for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
George was a longtime active member of the Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club, where he served as Master Instructor for the Hunter Safety Program and instructor for the Firearms Safety Course.
George is the father of Stephen Rost, John Rost and the late George K. Rost: He leaves his grandchildren, Brian Creswell, John Rost, Jr. Melissa Rost and James Rost; his daughter-in-law, Patty Rost.
George was the brother of the late LeRoy, Carl, Lois and Joan.
Family and friends are invited to attend his graveside service to be held on Friday, August 2nd, at 1 p.m. at the Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East Street, Tewksbury. The Rost family gravesite is located on Harold Patten Avenue in the cemetery.
