Obituary

CHICOPEE – Dennis C. Syriac, 77, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, July 26. 2024. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on February 14, 1947, a beloved son of the late Joseph B. and Irene E. (Bachand) Syriac. He was raised in Ludlow, attended Cathedral High School in Springfield and transferred to Ludlow High School his senior year where he graduated. He moved to Chicopee in 1981 where he lived the remainder of his life. He was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fairview Council 4044 in Chicopee where he was a longtime bartender in the Members’ Lounge as well as a volunteer for the monthly Spaghetti Supper and the yearly Thanksgiving Dinner. He was a very kind and sociable man who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Louise A. (Pope) Syriac who was Called Home on February 19, 2013. They were married on September 9, 1967 at the former Saint John Cantius Church in Northampton and were blessed with over 45 years of happiness together. He leaves his loving and devoted sons, Michael Syriac and his partner, Felicia Hyde, and John Syriac, all of Chicopee; his three cherished grandchildren, Roy Syriac and his wife, Bianca, Ashley Syriac, and Dennis Syriac; his two cherished great grandsons, Oliver and Miles; his dear brother, Raymond Syriac and his wife Terry, of Wilbraham; his dear sister, Bernice Lambert of Florida; his dear sister in law, Cheryl (Shepherd) Syriac of Springfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Lawrence L. Syriac who was Called Home on October 1, 2013; his dear brothers in law, Paul Lambert and Fred Blair; and his dear sister in law, Bonnie Mulrooney and her husband, Kevin. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Knights of Columbus Fairview Council 4044 Scholarship Fund, 1599 Memorial Drive, Chicopee, MA 01020.
