Allan Brooks Deering, 90, of Medway MA, formerly of Riverside, CT passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 25th 2024 following a brief illness.
Allan was born on April 1, 1934 in Chappaqua, NY of parents Muriel and Clarence Deering. He is survived by Carol his loving wife of 68 years, sons Peter and Andrew, daughters-in -law Lisa and Amber, and grandchildren Amelia, Louisa, Adam and Phoebe.
Allan graduated from Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua and from Columbia College. At Columbia he was President of the Delta Phi Fraternity and on the freshman crew and varsity track teams.
Following graduation from Columbia, Allan joined the IBM Corporation and spent his forty-four-year working career in information management positions with R.H. Donnelly, W.R. Grace & Co., SCM Corporation, and retired after twenty years at PepsiCo in Purchase, NY as Vice President. During his career, he was in leadership positions in many industry groups. He was especially proud that he was a founder and Chairman/President of the Fairfield/Westchester chapter of SIM. Allan, along with Carol, also established a scholarship fund for students at Pace University’s Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems.
Allan was extremely devoted to his family and included them in many vacations to Tanque Verde Ranch in Tucson, AZ and North Truro on Cape Cod. For many years he also hosted the family during holidays at his home in Riverside and with fun filled dinners at the Millbrook Club.
Allan enjoyed a life-long love of trains probably influenced by his grandfather who was an executive with the New York Central Railroad. He was a member of the Danbury Railway Museum and National Railway Museum. His train trips included visits to Australia, Peru, Mexico, the US including Alaska, South Africa, most European countries, China, and Japan. His favorite trip was with Carol on a ten-day train journey across Canada. Allan was also proud of the fact that during his life he visited all fifty states.
Our family wishes to thank the aides from Salmon PCO and the staff of Whitney Place for the wonderful comfort and care they gave Allan and especially for their support of the entire family during his final days.
A private memorial Service will be held at a future date.
