Obituary

Michael Kostas, 85, of Worcester died Saturday, July 27th in St. Francis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loved ones after a long battle with Dementia. He leaves his wife of 61 years, Panorea (Panousis) Kostas; two daughters, Frances Fassett of Rutland and Kathy Kostas-Riordan and her husband, Matthew of Worcester; a sister, Eleftheria John of Worcester; three grandchildren, Michael, Emily, and Billy Fassett; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Elpida Economou and Lynn Bilodeau, a brother-in-law George Economou and two nephews, Tommy Economou and Foti Barounis.
He was born in Grapsi, Northern Epiros, Greece the son of Thomas and Efrosini (Zoi) Kostas. Michael was a beloved member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and its seniors’ group. He was also an active member of the Order of AHEPA and the Panepirotic Society, where he made many lifelong friends.
Michael had a diverse career, beginning with his work on the assembly line at General Motors. Later, he worked as a cook at Tony’s Pizza and Dean Park Pizza before retiring in 2008.
After retirement his pure joy was spending time with his grandchildren and rooting for them at all their sporting events. He enjoyed his trips to Old Orchard Beach and Cape Cod, where he created many wonderful memories with his family
Michael’s warm smile, humor, kind heart, and love for his family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff at St. Francis Home.
His visitation is Thursday, August 1st from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial is in Hope Cemetery.
