Obituary

Jeanne D'Arc "Joan" Landry McKenna, 91, of Ledyard, CT, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024. Born on October 7, 1932, in Pawtucket, RI, and affectionately known as "Cookie" to her friends and family, she lived a life filled with love, adventure, and devotion to her family.
Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Frank McKenna, with whom she shared a passion for travel. Joan is survived by her daughter, Bridget McKenna Linicus Morrissey and son-in-law Will Morrissey of Ledyard. She leaves behind two grandsons: George Adam Linicus IV (wife Melissa Carpenter Linicus) and David Linicus (wife Jessica Main Linicus). Joan was a proud great-grandmother to Nathan, Austen, Jake, Payton and Josiah Linicus, all Stonington residents. She is survived by her brother Roland Landry (wife Joyce) of Providence, RI, sisters Clare Landry Costa (husband George Costa) of Cumberland, RI and Norma Landry Chandonnait (partner Alice Conger) of Stonington and brother-in-law Patrick McKenna (wife Joan Cavanagh McKenna) of Taunton, MA.
She was predeceased by her sisters Anna Landry Laliberte, Irene Landry Shuster, and Bernadette Landry Johnson, her brother Robert Landry, and her parents Roland Landry and Jeanne Laframboise Landry. She had numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Together, Joan and Frank explored the world, proudly visiting or sailing off the coast of all seven continents. Their journeys were a testament to their shared spirit of adventure and curiosity about the world. A lover of the arts, Joan was an enthusiastic fan of theater and show tunes. She found great joy in watching classic films, being a devoted viewer of Turner Classic Movies.
Her appreciation for the arts was matched only by her dedication to her family, particularly her great-grandchildren. Joan was a constant presence at her great-granddaughter's track meets and her great-grandsons' football, baseball, hockey, basketball games and scouting events, cheering them on with unwavering support.
Joan's life was characterized by her love for family, her adventurous spirit, and her appreciation for the arts. Bridget and Will Morrissey wish to invite all family and friends to attend an outdoor celebration of life on their property at 341 Shewville Road in Ledyard at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 3rd.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fogarty Center Children’s Program, an agency committed to empowering people to improve the quality of their lives. The children’s program provides specialized services designed to meet needs of children diagnosed with physical, emotional and developmental disabilities.
