Marilyn E. VanNieuwenhuyze, 86, of Overlook Circle, Smithfield, passed away peacefully on Monday July 22 at the Stillwater Healthcare Center, Smithfield, surrounded by family. She was the wife of Robert R. VanNieuwenhuyze. They had been married for 65 years.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Frank and Myra (Schmieder) Robertshaw. She had lived in Smithfield for over 60 years.
Marilyn had been a court clerk with the Family Court, serving 23 years with the State of RI.
She enjoyed baking, arts and crafts, and vacationing. She also treasured the many tranquil Maine getaways with her husband, being a grandmother, and spending time with family.
Besides her husband she leaves her sons, James J. VanNieuwenhuyze and his wife Shera Elliott of Port St. Lucie, FL, David W. VanNieuwenhuyze and his wife Linda of Brooklyn, CT, and Robert W. VanNieuwenhuyze and his wife Jodi of Smithfield. She was the grandmother of Amy L. Jordan, Julie M. Fraley, Ryan D. VanNieuwenhuyze, Evan R. VanNieuwenhuyze, Erik J. VanNieuwenhuyze, and Brock J. VanNieuwenhuyze, and great-grandmother of Kevin Jordan. She was step-grandmother to Miranda J. Girard and Anthony M. DiPetrillo, and the sister of Joseph E. Robertshaw and his wife Margie of North Providence. She was the mother of the late William R. VanNieuwenhuyze and sister of the late Frank A. Robertshaw, Jr.
Marilyn was a quiet and kind soul and per her wishes, her funeral was private.
