Margaret M. “Margie” Sullivan
Retired Executive Secretary and Certified Nursing Assistant
for Dr. Lawrence M. McCartin, MD

TEWKSBURY: Margaret M. “Margie” (Whalen) Sullivan, age 91, a resident of Tewksbury for nearly 70 years, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Monday, July 22, 2024.

She was the beloved wife of James D. Sullivan, with whom she had celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary before he passed away on June 24, 2021.

Born in Newton on September 17, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Francis Whalen and the late Emma (Hebert) Whalen. Margie was raised in Newton and attended St. Bernard’s High in West Newton.

Margie was the former executive secretary and certified nursing assistant for Lawrence M. McCartin, MD of Tewksbury for 42 years, for which she took great pride.

Margie enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, traveling and for many years visiting Palm Beach, Florida. She treasured her family, as well as the numerous friendships she developed while living in the same neighborhood for the past 69 years.

Margie is survived by her children, Thomas J. Sullivan and his wife Angela, of New Boston, NH, Brian J. Sullivan and his wife Judy, of Rye, NH, Patricia M. Miron and her husband Richard Miron, MD, and Susan J. Gustafson and her husband Eric, all of Dracut: her six grandchildren, Ryan, Grady, and Brianna Sullivan, Andrew Gustafson, Elizabeth Mihalow, and Nik Steinbrueck: her great grandchildren, Isabella Gustafson, Chase, Kayden, Jules and A.J. Steinbrueck, Josie and Reagan Mihalow: her sister, Barbara Topham: her brother, Francis Whalen and his wife, Lorraine Whalen, who was like a sister to her. She leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A private memorial service was held at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home in Tewksbury. Interment of her ashes followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Donations honoring her memory may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114
