After a long battle, Jakob Distl, lovingly known as "Opa," passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday evening, July 21, 2024.
Jakob was born December 19, 1935, in Vebrovatz, Yugoslavia. He immigrated in 1952 to Ventura from Germany. Jakob served in the U.S. National Guard and worked as a machinist and welder for 35 years for Vetco Offshore Industries and 10 years for T and H Compressor Repair. He enjoyed working in his flower garden, walks with his wife, and spending time with his family.
Jakob is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years Katharina Distl; daughter, Jackie Distl and her husband Robert Mendoza, of Ventura; son, Jimmy Distl (preceded by Samantha Distl), of Ventura; brother, Adam Distl and his wife Barbara, of Camarillo; grandchildren, Shayne Distl, Monet Mendoza, and Joseph Mendoza and his wife Kiersten; and great-grandchildren, Jimmy Cueva Ill, CJ Foulks and Jaxxon Foulks Jakob is preceded by his sister, Margaret Gage
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Thursday–August, 1, 2024 at the Mission Basilica San Buenaventura, 211 East Main Street, Ventura, California. Burial will follow at lvy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
