Maria Ophelia (DeOliveira) Silva, 80, of Westport, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024, at Catholic Memorial Home surrounded by her caring family after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was the loving wife of the late Antonio M. Silva, who helped care for her until his death last summer. They had been happily married for over 55 years.
Born in Castelo Branco, Faial, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Jose Felix and Amelia (Avila) DeOliveira. She had lived in Westport most of her adult life. Mrs. Silva enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and going on walks. Her faith was also very important to her. She was an active communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church in Westport, as well as a past member of the Women's Guild. Mrs. Silva loved her family, especially spending time with her granddaughter.
Survivors include her devoted daughter: Goretti S. Joaquim and her husband Oscar of Dartmouth; her granddaughter: Gabriella G. Joaquim; along with several brothers John, Felix, and Jose, her brother-in-law Walter Silva, and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Maria M. DeFreitas.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Friday, July 26, 2024, at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport at 11:00 A.M.
Visitation will be Friday from 8:30 - 10:30 A.M. at the Potter Funeral Home prior to the Mass.
Interment will be Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
