SPRINGFIELD – George Aristides Demetriou, 90, of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, July 22, 2024. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Greece on August 17, 1933, and immigrated to Springfield in 1963. He learned the trade of reupholstering and went on to become the co-owner and operator of Slipcover Center, Inc. for over 40 years. He was a member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield. During his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, lunches at the Agawam Senior Center, and spending time with his family. He leaves to treasure his memory, his beloved wife of 62 years, Vasso (Christos) Demetriou; his three loving and devoted children, Peter Demetriou (Angie), Eleni Hogan (Jim), and Aristea Fenney; his six cherished grandchildren, Alexandra and Ivy Demetriou, Marina and Eva Hogan, Nicholas and Katerina Fenney; and his brother in law, business partner, and best friend, Dino Christos. He also leaves many family members and friends both in the United States and Greece. George will Lie in Repose on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. His burial will follow the service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
