Austin Newbern, 83, of Tifton passed away Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Beverly Health Care in Tifton. His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Joe Wiggins and the Rev. Terry Robinson officiating. Mr. Newbern was laid to rest at Oakey Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Berrien County.
Mr. Newbern's nephews served as pallbearers.
Born October 29, 1918, in Tift County, Mr. Newbern was the son of the late Ben Newbern and Janie Young Newbern. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lucile Phillips Newbern. He was a retired textile worker; and he was a member of Oakey Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Berrien County.
Mr. Newbern is survived by two brothers, Leroy Newbern and Virgil Newbern, both of Tifton.
