Irene Walker Martin, 87, of Enigma passed away Friday, April 5, 2002, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Enigma Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. Wilson Martin and the Rev. Pete Jones officiating. Mrs. Martin was laid to rest at McMillan Cemetery in Alapaha.
John Weaver, Clyde Henderson, Otis Waters, Jimmy Martin, Llewlyn Roberts and Darwin Walker served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Sumner, Ebb Griffin, Lynn Shaw, Jule Able and Sonny Mathis.
Born June 25, 1914, in Randolph County, Alabama, Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late John Walker and Enola Hester Walker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Georg Eston Martin, who passed away in 1988; four brothers; and four sisters. She was a homemaker; and she was a member of Enigma Congregational Christian Church.
Mrs. Martin is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Jean Martin of Enigma and Ruth Wedincamp of Bloomingdale; three grandchildren, Don Shaw, Danny Dorminey and Sylvia McClung; and three great-grandchildren, Guy Richard McClung, Sara Parker Shaw and William Taylor Shaw.
