Obituary

Amos Wright Marchant, 88, of Tifton passed away Saturday, August 31, 2002, at Northside Hospital in Macon. His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2002. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Olin Hamlin and the Rev. Eddie Allen officiating. Mr. Marchant was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Jeffrey W. Gleaton, Jay Todd Gleaton, Justin W. Marchant, J. Austin Marchant, Timothy D. Obelgoner, Brent Milner, Duran Deal and Keith W. Cromartie served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the Board of Directors of the South Georgia Bank, the members of the Board of Deacons at Zion Hope Baptist Church in Tifton, Dr. Robert Wight, Gerald Branch and Stewart Adams.

Born December 9, 1913, in Tifton, Mr. Marchant was the son of the late John Alexander Marchant and Elizabe4th Daniels Marchant. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Fletcher Marchant; two brothers; and four sisters. He was a farmer and a member of the Hasan Temple in Albany, the Tifton Masonic Lodge #47, the Middle-South Georgia Soil Conservation Board, the Tift County Goldkist Board, the Board of Directors of South Georgia Bank and the ASCS Board and Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee. He served as director emeritus of the Farm Credit Association; and he was a member of Zion Hope Baptist Church in Tifton, where he served on the Board of Deacons.

Mr. Marchant is survived by two sons, John Wright Marchant of Tifton and Joe Marc Marchant of Monroe; two daughters, Dianne Marchant Gove of Monroe and Suzanne Marchant Boyd of Macon; one brother, Warren H. Marchant of Tifton; one sister, Virginia Sumner Hays; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
