Obituary

Chester J. Makowiecki, age 90, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, in his home in Auburn, MA. Born on April 10, 1934, in Worcester, MA, to Andrew and Mary (Kawecki) Makowiecki. Chester proudly served in the United States Army for two years followed by four years in the reserves, before embarking on a distinguished career in education. He began his career as a teacher in Webster, MA, and later became Principal of Park Avenue Elementary School, where he served for 39 years.
Chet graduated from St. Mary’s High School and College of the Holy Cross and received his Master’s In Education from Boston State College. He was a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Czestochowa. Chet’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his daily actions and beliefs. Chet was a passionate fan of New England sports, a hobby that brought him much joy and excitement. He also loved fishing, gardening, photography, and celebrating Polish traditions. Above all, Chet found the greatest joy in the company of his beloved family, especially his two grandchildren who brought him immense happiness.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Lenore (Nora) Makowiecki; his devoted sons, John and his wife Tammy, and Joseph and his wife Becky. Cherished grandchildren Andrew and Ellie Makowiecki; and many dear nieces and nephews. Chet was preceded in death by his brothers Henry, Michael, Brother Edward, O.F.M., and sisters Theresa Kaczyk and Irene Dymek.
Chet appreciated the long and loyal friendship of his staff and teachers at Park Avenue Elementary School.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all his caregivers for their kindness, support and care.
Chet’s life was marked by a deep commitment to his faith, family, country and community.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2024, from 3:00 pm -5:00 pm in the Henry Dirsa Funeral Home, 33 Ward St., Worcester. A funeral mass will be at 11:00 am, Monday, July 29, 2024, in Our Lady of Czestochowa, 34 Ward St., Worcester. A private burial will be held at a later date.
