ALTON BAY ---- Violet May White, 96, died Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord, NH.
Violet was born in Chelsea, MA the daughter of Isaac and Rose (Crane) Hussey. She spent her early years in Malden and Everett, MA; however, she spent most of her life in Saugus, MA. Violet worked at the Burke’s Yarn Shop for many years where she spent much of her time teaching others the art of knitting.
Violet married the boy next door, and together, she and her late husband William spent their retirement years traveling the country in their RV, visiting friends and family. She enjoyed evenings cheering on her favorite “boys of summer” the Boston Red Sox.
Above all else, Violet’s faith was most important in her life. In her early life that faith was being formed at the Salvation Army, Chelsea, and then after the family moved to Saugus at the Church of the Nazarene. Her Bible is well worn and there is still her lengthy prayer list in it. The young girls she daily prayed for knew of her love and care for them…as did her grandchildren. A granddaughter wrote on a social media post at her death the following: “Everyone should have a grandmother like her. She was beautiful, quick-witted, kind, generous, and warm. Recently I was complimented on my children. I only half joked that all the credit goes to Grandma for her constant prayers, and that she better be stockpiling a few for the future! While the theology around “stockpiling prayer” may be questionable, I do not question her faithful commitment, her love of God and her family, and the great legacy that she leaves behind.” She was a most selfless woman, always putting others needs and cares above her own, even during her last days.
She is survived by a son, John White (Juliet); daughter, Marilyn Beckwith (Fred); five grandchildren: Daniel Beckwith, Heather Scalera, Krista Casler, Kara Prahl, Timothy White; 11 great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Megan Scalera, Josiah and William Casler, Micah, Carter, and Benjamin Prahl, and Levi, Theo, Lydia, and Charlie White; two brothers: Major Robert Hussey (Janene) and Richard Hussey (Susan) and so very many lifelong friends from the church families where she attended.
There are no calling hours.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 2, at 11:00am at the New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene, 33 Staniels Rd., Loudon.
Interment will follow at 3:00pm at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.
Donations in Violet’s memory can be made to the Cuba Mission Trip and sent to New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene, 33 Staniels Road, Loudon, NH 03307 as the last few years she has prayed for and financially supported the pastors in Cuba.
