James “Jimmy” Augustus Loring, age 71 of Hingham, passed away peacefully on July 20th, 2024 surrounded by love.
He was born on February 6th, 1953 to George and Barbara (Dorey) Loring in Brockton, MA. He was raised in Whitman, MA and spent the majority of his time in town throughout his life. He attended Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, graduating in 1971. Jimmy was a pillar of Whitman, where many people still recognize his name and have stories to go along with it.
He established himself with many auto repair shops along the South Shore in the 80s-90s, settling down at TLC Auto in Whitman for many years of his life until retirement a few years ago. In addition to Whitman, he resided in Cohasset and Hull for a period of time. He was an “old school” business man and an avid Boston sports fan. But his favorite job of all was being Grampy Jim to his 8 grandchildren who he adored more than anything in the world.
He is survived by his children: Michael Loring and his wife Marissa of Whitman; Nicholas Loring and his wife Sunisa of Whitman; and Alanna Caulfield and her husband Timothy of Hyde Park. In addition to his children, he is survived by his beloved grandchildren: Halle and Alayna Loring; Sophia, Lyla, Johanna, and Michael Loring; and Ronan and Jade Caulfield. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Loring Goodale and her husband Charlie of Sun City Center, FL; his niece Pam Goodale and her wife Jennifer Puhlhorn of Portland, OR; and his longtime girlfriend, Judy Lake.
He is predeceased by his parents, George and Barbara; his brother, Michael George Loring; and his niece, Sarah Goodale.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, especially for his witty antics.
Visting hours will be held at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, on Wednesday, July 24th from 4-7 pm, with a funeral service to follow at 7:00.
