Mary Lou McGlone, age 76, of Bridgewater, formerly of Abington and Brockton, died on July 17, 2024, at South Shore Hospital. Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Margaret M. (Slattery) McGlone.
Mary Lou was a graduate of Brockton High School, class of 1966 and Laboure College of Nursing, class of 1968. She was a nurse for over 50 years. At the time of her passing she was working at the Colony Center for Health & Rehabilitation in Abington. Prior to that she worked at other nursing homes in the surrounding communities, as well as at the Brockton Visiting Nurse Association. She spent many years at Cardinal Cushing General Hospital working in many departments, including the ICU and Recovery Room.
Mary Lou was a longtime Eucharistic Minister at St. Bridget’s Church in Abington and was a huge supporter of veterans’ groups. Proud of her Irish heritage, she enjoyed listening to traditional Irish music. She also enjoyed time spent with family and friends and time by the ocean along the Cape, especially at the Cape Cod Canal.
Mary Lou was a true friend to all she knew and would do anything for someone she cared about.
Mary Lou is survived by her niece Jennifer Horton Fontaine and her husband Sean of Haverhill, NH, as well as many cousins, friends and colleagues. She was the sister of the late Jane Horton and best friend and roommate of the late Sandy Pray.
A special thanks to cousins and friends Mary Jane and Arthur Illsley for their loving care of Mary Lou, especially these last few months.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Monday, July 22 from 4-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:30am for a Funeral Mass at Holy Ghost Church in Whitman at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
