It is with deep sorrow we are announcing the death of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather (“Papa”), Bert Vervoorn, who passed on July 18, 2024, at the age of 81.
Bert was a lifelong Ventura County resident. He was the first-born son to Bert and Hasel Vervoorn. He met the love of his life, Jan, while attending Ventura High School. Bert’s locker was adjacent to Jan’s, and when it was full, she offered to wear his football letterman’s sweater to free up some space. He replied “No, thank you!” Bert and Jan then went on to enjoy 62 beautiful years of marriage. They were overjoyed when they welcomed the births of their three daughters, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Bert’s passion and joy for life was evident from a life full of adventures. His hobbies included designing and building award-winning hotrods, fishing all over the world, going on cruises, and spending time with his family.
Bert started his career as a land surveyor for the State of California. He then became an entrepreneur who started many businesses with Jan, including Contractors Barricade Service.
Bert is survived by his loving wife, Jan, his three daughters, Tina Vervoorn, Cindy (Chris) Roadifer and Gina (Danny) Stymacher; grandchildren, Marc (Erin) Stegmaier, Brady Stegmaier, Greyson Stymacher, Haley (Shane) Wipf, Michael Davis and Ian Roadifer. He will also be missed by his sister Julia, brother Tom, uncle Monty, and many nieces and nephews.
Bert is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Christopher Davis.
